PHILOSOPHY

Connection and cooperation

Nature reveals the deep interconnectedness of all beings. The experience of feeling part of nature gives us humans a sense of belonging and relevance. Thus, we are in cooperation and social interaction with the different forms of life of our planet.

Potential for transformation

Through the cycles of nature, life shows us that the continuous becoming and passing away is part of all living processes. It is also part of ourselves. Therefore, there is a great potential for transformation in all these events. We want to use these chances and support each other to grow. By doing this, we experience emotional and social challenges as a natural part of our lives.

Diversity and openness

Nature does not follow a single, fixed plan. Its creative adaptability lies in the diversity of the system. We too live an open concept that can be an inspiration and model for others, in which nourishing influences and developments are always welcome.

OUR GOAL IS TO CULTIVATE, PRESERVE AND PROMOTE TRADITIONAL CANARIAN USEFUL AND MEDICINAL PLANTS.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ecological revival

The project aims to show that even eroded land that hasn’t been cultivated for decades can become a fertile fruit, vegetable and herb garden using the right methods. Fertile soil tackles two of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change and food security.

Our core team has been revitalizing the soils for over ten years with great commitment and expertise. We also count on the valuable support of volunteers.

“TERRA PRETA DE INDIO”

“Terra Preta de Indio” is a form of soil management that has enormous potential and which we want to bring to new life on La Gomera.
The dung produced by goats is used as a valuable plant fertilizer and is introduced into the soil together with plant charcoal in order to increase the humus layer on the areas we cultivate. On the one hand, this increases significantly soil fertility and, on the other hand, also allows large amounts of CO2 to be captured in the soil over a long period of time.

VEGETABLE AND CEREAL CROPS

The cultivation of vegetable and cereal crops, as well as the relevant production of seeds, poses different challenges in terms of the location, soil conditions and irrigation. In addition to the “Core Finca” in Chipude, we have other cultivation areas at our disposal so that we can cultivate a wider variety of species and take better care of the specific requirements of the plants.

TAKING ROOT

The Finca Alexandria wants to provide a space for regeneration of soils, plants, animals, and people. Partners, friends, guests, or external helpers providing workshops should experience this unique and powerful piece of earth as a place of peace and self-discovery.

NETWORK

We are in lively exchange with regional stakeholders. Our network allows us to distribute our products and services across the island. All our goods are processed at the finca. Also, various herbal products or leather and wooden goods are produced there.

We are always
on the lookout for
